2/25

mmm...ok...
Completely random...I don't drink, I don't like drinking, and I can't drink...
However, within the last hour I have decided and applied for a course to be a certified 日本酒品酒師.
If my application goes well, course will start next month!

2/5

On my birthday Chris took me to Eichigo Yuzawa. One of the most popular onsen ski resort areas in Niigata.
We didn't book a room until 4 days before. All the onsen hotels are full, but we still managed to get a room at a hotel that I wanted to stay at (Hatago Isen)!
We must be super lucky :D

The cozy lobby.

AND!!! We got a private outdoor onsen in our room!

The water runs 24 hours!

Very healthy course dinner
Chris taking his appetitizer very seriously

Chris said the robe makes him look like a doctor from hospital XD
Healthy breakfast

Snowy Snowy Snow

Too much snow that the sidewalk turned into a snowy hallway!

Lunch Time

At lunch time, I ate with the students as usual.
Today I ate with junior high 1st graders.
As we were eating, the home-room teacher passed a list of questions for the boy sitting next to me.
The list of questions was already written in katagana English.
Ex: ヂド ジュ エンジョイ ユア ベケション イン タイワン (Did you enjoy your vacation in Taiwan?)
But the boy was too shy, so he ran to his friends and asked his friend to ask me instead.

Boy 1: What do I do…?
Boy 2: Just read it.
Boy 1: I can’t. Why don’t you read it?
Boy 2: Hurry! Just do it!
(After struggling for couple minutes)
Boy 2: Let’s take turns and read a word each.
Boy 1: fine…
Boy 2: You go first.
Boy 1: Why don’t you go first, it’s your idea
(After struggling for a couple minutes)
Boy 2: ヂド (Did)
Boy 1: ……..
Boy 2: Just say it!!!!!!!
Boy 1: ジュ (you)
Boy 2: エンジョイ(enjoy)
Boy 1: ユア (your)
Boy 2: ベケション (vacation)
Boy 1: イン (in)
Boy 2: タイワン (Taiwan)

I couldn’t stop laughing.

1/6

Nagaoka is much colder after I came back from Taiwan.
When I went back home, the temperature in my apartment was only 5C.
However, there’s no central heater in Japan…
I really don’t know why they have no central heating system in an area that snows almost everyday, or the so called 雪国. Even Korea has central heating since the ancient time.

Since I came back, Nagaoka has been cold + dark + windy + wet…
It rained + hailed + snowed…
It was so cold and dark in the morning that it was very difficult for me to wake up early.
If I want to heat up my room, I would have to get out of my bed and crawl to the heater to turn it on >.< And then I would have leave the warm room and go to the washroom to brush my teeth and wash my face in the cold again.

As the school hasn’t started for us yet, the past 3 days has been boring office days for me.
Just sitting around and pretend to be busy is the most difficult thing to do, which makes my day very long.
