Monday & Tuesday, 5 of us JET people from the office when to a conference in Niigata City.
Must say the conference was really boring and useless. But it was very fun hang out with Mark and Soph and Chris for 2 days.
We stayed in a hotel called "SUPER HOTEL" lol... very funny name but the hotel was pretty nice for the price we paid.

Recieved a birthday card today by surprise!
I opened my mailbox and saw the mail thinking:
"hey... this is from Lily! LILY!!!!! wow... that's rare... she never sent me anything before... wowwwwwwww........."
And then I opened the card, it was a booklet full of msgs from all of my cousins :]
I was really happy!

Cutest Baby Ever!!!
Went to Scott's place last weekend while some of the male ALTs were having their geek night. I offered to watchover Scott's baby because he's so cute!!!
The baby is only 8 month old, 1/2 Japanese 1/2 American. He couldn't talk yet, but he loves to read.
He's not afraid of the strangers at all and he doesn't cry either (while we were there).
He's head is almost as big as mine!!!
I would like to call him 大頭寶寶 :D

I added more stuffed animals to the baby's outfit >.< He didn't realize it at all...

1/14
There was a big snow last night, and it continued until this afternoon.
I have to say, I have never ever seem this much snow piling up before.
This morning I had 1 meter of snow sitting on top of my car.
I had to go to Ishizaka Elementary today, which is somewhere close to the mountain.
After I picked up the materials at the office, I decided to head for the school 1 hour early.
On the way to Ishizaka, there was a big road with a couple train crossings on the left side of the road. I had to turn at one of the train crossings.
Since the snow all piled up and the signs were blocked, I had no idea which turn to take.
I got very lost and had to turn around many times.

Once I turned into the train crossing road. Everything became white. EVERTHING!
On the way, I couldn't see a single house or car or person. Like a desert of snow. I couldn't even see the outline of the road. All I did was kept on driving straight...For a second, I thought I was driving in heaven.
And then I finally arrived at the school 15mins after the lesson started, which was exactly 1 hour after I left the office.
Took a picture this afternoon when it stopped snowing.
The pile of snow formed into a wall along the sidewalk. And the snow piled up so high that it formed a mountain.

Mark just came back from England, so today we gathered for a hotpot and movie night.
It was 4 of us hanging out at my place.
It was my favorite nabe: soy milk nabe. And we also watched 2 comedies.
I really enjoyed the time with them <3

New Goal for 2010
Have to work on my portfolio!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess that will be my new year resolution.
Will have to start somewhere if I want to go to a design school.
Recently, I started sketching.
Yesterday worked on photoshop.
Here's my first photoshop work.
Was going to work on it again today, but I stupidly deleted the original file >.<

And save money!!! (not a new goal)
Thought I would be able to save lots, but it wasn't as easy as I imagined.
Target is to save a bit more than 1/3 of my salary for school. But I haven't been able to meet my target recently!!!
Most of my money went to: rent, utility fee, car/gas, food.
PLUS...I barely go shopping anymore... *sigh*

Recently, I usually wake up at the very last minute when I have a work day.
So I would rush through everything within 15 mins: toilet, wash my face/ brush my teeth/ change my outfit.
And then I would rush to work without make up (which I used to do), and then get to the office 10 mins before work time. THEN take out my breakfast and swallow it in 2 minutes (which I used to have at home before I leave). Lastly, change my rainboots in the office, put away my coat, and finally get ready 2 minutes before work starts.

I really hope that the world wouldn't end in 2012...

New Year Party!
Today Chris and I were invited to Ota-sensei's house for a New Year's Party.
When we arrived at Ota-sensei's house, her two boys came to welcome us.
She has two very genki boys, 6 and 3 years old.
Soon after we arrived her sister and her friend also arrived.
Her friend brought her boyfriend, who's Taiwanese but works for the USA military at the Yokohama base station.
Ota-sensei prepared many delicious dishes. My favorite was the daikon salad :D Maybe I will try to make it some day.
While we were chatting and eating, Ota-sensei's husband was looking after the kids.
And when we finished, he cleaned up after us. I felt kind of bad about that.
When the party ended, just when we were about to leave, she gave both me and Chris a present. It was a pair of chopsticks with a tiger drawing and my name engraved on top!

Korea Day 4
Last day of Korea.
We checked out at the hotel @ 12pm.
Had ishiyaki bibimpap @ 全洲中央會館 recommanded by the guide book.
13000W for a bibimpap...I would say it was a bit pricy...

A bus came to pick us up from the hotel @ 2pm.
On it's way to the airport, it also dropped us off at an omiyage shop.
When we got to the omiyage shop, we all sat around a big table full of different samples of kimchi. A korean lady would then try to sell us all those products they offer.
At the end, we got some omiyage for the office people.
We HAD to get omiyage for the office people.
After shopping for the omiyage, our Korea trip came to an end *sniff*

As for my reflection 感想:
I thought Korea is pretty similar to Taiwan (not culturaly, but the surrounding)
And my favorite meal would be the chicken soup! But for some reason, I wasn't too impressed with the food I had. I thought the Korean restaurants in Vancouver were better>.<
But maybe that was because I had my first korean food experience in Vancouver.
Korea is probably more fun for people who loves to shop.

Took metro to 東大門.
Alex also recommanded Doota shopping center, so we visited there.
It was so crowded!!!!!
After Doota, I felt so exhausted, I didn't get too look around the market area, just went back to the hotel for a break >.<

First meal of the day: 烏骨參雞湯 at a restaurant near 景福宮 palace called 土俗村.
The chicken was stuffed with 人參 ginseng and 糯米.
More kimchi was offered, neither of us wanted to try because of the strong after taste, but 2 Korean salary men sitting beside us kept on telling us that we have to try it, so we had some just to be polite.
I had the radish kimchi, it was good!
Think this is the point where I started to like kimchi.

Unfortunately, the palace doesn't open on Tuesdays, so we didn't get to see the inside of the palace.

Since the palace wasn't open, we decided to move on to 仁寺洞.
At 仁寺洞 there were many shops that sells traditional crafts and fabrics.
I bought myself a mother of pearl inlayed jewery box.

We took a break at a traditional tea house 傳統茶院 in the 仁寺洞 area.
We ordered chrysanthemum tea, pear tea, and 2 dishes of traditional sweets.
I found the sweets the same as Taiwanese traditional sweets 發糕 and 麻老.

In the afternoon we went back to our hotel to take a break.
Had dinner @ a restaurant called Yung Yang Centre 營養中心 recommanded by Alex.
That restaurant only sells baked chicken or ginseng chicken soup.
And more kimchi was offered :]

After dinner, we went to the City Hall area to see a traditional musical performance.
The performance is a musical play of a love story. It includes traditional drumming, dancing, singing. Very impressive. I think this performance might be more interesting than the NANTA performace.
At the concert hall, we also had a chance to dress up. But it was a bit of a pressure to have to pick an outfit quickly and take a picture infront of many others.
